Louise Nevelson pioneered monumental site-specific installation art and she broke into the world of men who created large-scale sculpture. She utilized various materials, mostly salvaged wood, that she transformed into masterpieces.
Nevelson embodied the heritage she brought from Ukraine. She grew up in rural Maine, and although a superstar she was an outsider. She jumped at the first opportunity to move to NYC.
Nevelson was a visionary who produced a vast body of work that can be seen in museums and private collections all over the world.
