The Silk Road: A Personal Journey
The Silk Road stretches 4,000 miles from China to the Mediterranean, carrying silk, spices, and ways of living that shaped every town along the way. Its monuments, now World Heritage sites, preserve that history for the world.
What drew me into this culture was far more modest. I fell in love with Turkey's traditional houses, the humble homes that are a significant part of the country's cultural heritage. Rapidly disappearing, tucked away in towns and villages that outsiders will never see, their simple facades give nothing away. Step inside, and what is revealed is beauty, order, and a fierce pride in hearth and home.
